Privacy Policy – District Element Hider
Last updated: October 22, 2026
District Element Hider is a Manifest V3 Chrome extension for school-managed Chrome and ChromeOS devices. It applies hide rules that a Google Workspace administrator supplies through Chrome managed policy. The extension ships with no filters and does nothing until that policy is configured.
Data collection
This extension does not collect, store, transmit, or share any browsing data, page content, personal information, usage statistics, or other user data.
It does not send data to any server. It does not use analytics. It does not contact any external service.
What the extension does
On the sites listed in its host permissions (YouTube and selected Google Workspace domains), a content script can apply administrator-supplied rules. Those rules may be:
CSS selectors
Text matches against labels or visible text already on the page (:has-text())
One built-in scriptlet (force-autoplay-off) that turns YouTube autoplay off and hides related end-screen elements
All code is packaged inside the extension. Administrators cannot supply arbitrary JavaScript. The extension does not use eval, remote scripts, or network-loaded code.
It has no popup, options page, or student-controlled settings. When force-installed by the district, students cannot disable it.
Storage
The only data stored is the administrator’s filter list in chrome.storage.managed (or, on an unpacked developer build, a temporary local test list). Storage contains filter strings only. It does not store names, emails, browsing history, cookies, or page contents. Nothing in storage is transmitted off the device.
Permissions
The extension requests only the storage permission (to read the managed policy) and host access limited to the YouTube and Google Workspace origins needed to apply the rules. It does not request broader access.
Managed environments
This extension is intended for force-installation on student organizational units via Google Admin Console. On unmanaged or personal Chrome profiles it does nothing unless a developer manually adds test filters locally.
Third parties
None. No data is shared with third parties.
